Every model has a low seating height that emulates a car rather than a truck or crossover. ![]() The latter can be had with a third row that enables seating for up to seven. The Transit Connect's front seat will look familiar regardless of whether it's in the cargo or passenger van. For more information about the Transit Connect's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website. Since we haven't tested the Ford nor the Ram on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route-part of our extensive testing regimen-we are unable to report on their real-world mpg. The Ford's only other direct competitor is the Ram ProMaster City, which is rated at 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. The EPA rates the 2022 Ford Transit Connect at up to 24 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. However, it was bouncy while driving over uneven pavement and had irregular tracking on the highway. The last long-wheelbase model we drove was equipped with the discontinued 2.5-liter four-cylinder and felt very agile around town thanks to its accurate steering and well-controlled body motions. The Transit Connect can tow up to 2000 pounds and carry a maximum payload of 1570 pounds. The Transit Connect offers a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 162 horsepower and pairs with an eight-speed automatic. The Trailer Tow package is also a worthy upgrade because it unlocks the van's 2000-pound towing capacity. The only individual options we'd add are adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, lane-keeping assist, and passive entry. Every XLT also has blind-spot monitoring and rear-cross-traffic alert. Compared with the base model, it adds a standard touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, built-in navigation, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. We think the mid-level XLT model is the best value. The beauty of the Transit Connect is that it can be configured and outfitted to meet a variety of needs. Buyers can still pick between a short or long wheelbase and a cargo van or a passenger van body configuration. The city van is now only available with the turbocharged 2.0-liter in-line four-cylinder engine as the naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine has been discontinued. What's New for 2022?įor 2022, Ford doesn't make any significant changes to the Transit Connect lineup. As long as highway slogs are limited, and regularly driven roads aren't too rough, the 2022 Transit Connect is easy to get around in, and its go-kart-like handling is endearing. Ford even offers popular features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as driver assists such as adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring. There's also a choice of short or long wheelbases and a rear liftgate or symmetrical rear doors. Available as a hollowed-out cargo van or one that'll hold up to seven passengers, the Transit Connect can be configured for a multitude of jobs. However, for the various tradespeople who will find it most useful, those demerits should be easier to stomach. The 2022 Ford Transit Connect's maneuverability and versatility make it a great city van, but its unrefined nature and unremarkable engines leave a lot to be desired. ![]()
